Daily Maintenance of Crankshafts in Warehouse Storage Before Installation
Jul 05, 2024| The crankshaft, as one of the core components of an engine, requires meticulous daily maintenance during its storage in the warehouse before installation to ensure its quality and performance are not compromised. The following are some key maintenance measures:

1. Environmental Control
1. Temperature and humidity
The warehouse should maintain an appropriate temperature and humidity. The ideal temperature range is typically between 15°C and 25°C, and the relative humidity should be controlled between 50% and 70%. Excessive temperature and humidity may cause rust and corrosion on the crankshaft, while too low a temperature may affect its material properties.

2. Ventilation
A good ventilation system is crucial for the warehouse. It helps with air circulation, reduces moisture accumulation, and prevents the accumulation of harmful gases, thereby reducing potential damage to the crankshaft.

2. Packaging Protection
1. Rust-proof packaging
Before storage, the crankshaft should undergo rust-proof treatment and be wrapped with rust-proof packaging materials. Common rust-proof packaging methods include applying rust-proof oil, using rust-proof paper or rust-proof plastic film, etc.
2. Dust-proof packaging
To prevent dust and impurities from adhering to the surface of the crankshaft, it should be packaged with a dust cover or sealed bag.
3. Storage Methods
1. Horizontal placement
The crankshaft should be placed horizontally on a dedicated shelf or pallet, avoiding tilting or hanging to prevent deformation due to its own weight.
2. Spaced storage
Different specifications and models of crankshafts should be stored separately and kept at a certain interval to avoid mutual collision and scratching.
4. Regular Inspections
1. Appearance inspection
Regularly conduct appearance inspections of the stored crankshafts to check for rust, corrosion, bumps, scratches, etc. If any problems are found, corresponding treatment measures should be taken promptly.
2. Packaging inspection
Check whether the packaging is intact. If there is any damage or aging, the packaging materials should be replaced in a timely manner to ensure the rust-proof and dust-proof effects.

5. Cleaning and Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Before inspection or handling, the surface of the crankshaft should be cleaned of dust and debris first, and wiped gently with a clean soft cloth.
2. Applying rust inhibitor
Depending on the storage time and environmental conditions, the surface of the crankshaft should be reapplied with rust inhibitor regularly to enhance the rust-proof effect.
Through the above daily maintenance measures, the quality and performance of the crankshaft during warehouse storage can be effectively protected, providing a reliable guarantee for subsequent installation and use
