The material is made of carbon structural steel or ductile iron, and has two important parts: the main shaft journal, the connecting rod journal, and (among others). The main shaft journal is installed on the cylinder block, and the connecting rod journal is connected to the large end hole of the connecting rod, while the small end hole of the connecting rod is connected to the cylinder piston. It is a typical crank slider mechanism. The lubrication of the crankshaft mainly refers to the lubrication of the bearing shells between the rocker arms and the lubrication of the fixed points at both ends. The rotation of the crankshaft is the power source of the engine. It is also the source power of the entire mechanical system.

The crankshaft may wear the contact surface between the connecting rod big end and the journal due to unclean oil and uneven stress on the journal. If there are large particles of hard impurities in the oil, there is also a risk of scratching the surface of the journal. If wear is severe, it is likely to affect the stroke length of the piston's up and down movement, reducing combustion efficiency, and naturally reducing power output.

In addition, the crankshaft may also be burned on the surface of the journal due to insufficient lubrication or too thin oil, which in severe cases can affect the reciprocating motion of the piston. Therefore, it is necessary to use lubricating oil with appropriate viscosity and ensure the cleanliness of the engine oil.
