What are the common damages to the crankshaft?
Mar 06, 2023| The common damage forms of crankshaft include journal wear, cracks, ablation, bending, twisting, and fracture. Generally speaking, for severely ablated, cracked, or broken crankshafts, they cannot be repaired and can only be scrapped; For crankshafts with excessive bending or distortion, we can use pressure correction to repair them.
For excessively worn crankshafts, we can grind them to the specified repair size, and then select corresponding enlarged bearing shells to restore the fit clearance; If the wear is severe, vibration surfacing or electric spraying can also be used to fill the defective area, and then machining to the specified repair size.
However, there is a special point to be noted here: the crankshaft must be re nitrided after grinding, otherwise there is a risk of fracture of the crankshaft.
However, in the actual engine repair process, the crankshaft is generally rarely repaired, and if there is a defect, it is directly replaced. On the one hand, the repair of the crankshaft is relatively difficult, the process is relatively complex, the required accuracy is high, and the cost is relatively expensive, both economically and technically, which is not cost-effective.
